Choosing to dance.

My Mother's Day.
My mom was out of the country.
My grandchildren and oldest daughter were 12 hours away.
And this was my first time to not have any of my girls with me in church on Mother's Day.
It was not a "normal" Mother's Day.

But I danced anyway.

Even though at first it was an odd kind of mother's day, I pulled out my new favorite twirly skirt that  I bought for $6 on clearance…..
and I danced.
Letting go of the sad old song "but this is how it used to be" and twirling to a new melody.
One I like to call "The best is yet to come."
Before you think how awesome that is let me just tell you..
I haven't always danced when my world felt odd.

No there have been times where I climbed into my bed, pulled the covers up and slept the day away. I'm not immured to succumbing to the blue funk and dwelling on the negative stuff instead choosing to see the blessings in everything.

But I can guarantee you there has never been a time when I was glad I slept through the moment.
And there has never been a time I regretting dancing.

And my day just kept getting better.
I had a gen-u-ine Mother's Day Miracle and our FaceTime actually worked!
We talked with the grand kids for over an hour!

And I actually got a picture with all three of my girls after all!

There were pretty flowers.

And lots of food.

There was back porch swinging.

Handsome dinner guests.

Beautiful cards flocked in glitter and lots of presents.

And there were macarons.  Not to be confused with macaroons.
There is a big difference in case you didn't know.
(I just found out not too long ago myself)

And then the Lord wrapped up the day with this pretty scene.
No filter.

I was blessed beyond measure.
Undeservedly.
And I'm so thankful.
The best is always yet to come.
I'm thankful He's given me a new song to dance to.

  3. This makes my heart happy. I hate that all of your girls couldn't be together, but thank the Lord for technology, because it makes the distance seem not so far. You and your girls are gorgeous, inside and out! Hope your day was special--you are worth celebrating :)

  5. I have had several Mother's Day sans children in the house now, and while they're not my favorite I do think we can choose to celebrate the fact that we've raised girls to go out into the world and live life. I spent mine with my mom and one daughter. We cleaned out my mom's basement which is also not my favorite Mother's Day activity : ) but it needed doing so my sister and brother and I and our spouses got it done. Technology is a beautiful thing in some ways, isn't it? Also, I love your shoes!! Happy Mother's Day!

  6. I am so glad you had a happy Mother's Day!! I wish you were my neighbor - we would have had you over(: Plus I know your hubby is a good cook, so he could give my hubby lessons on our new smoker(: And I had no clue there was a difference between a macaron and a macaroon! I learn something new every day! Susan

  7. Yes, we gotta keep dancing! I had neither of our children with me Sunday but it was okay. Mothers Day has never been the same since my Mom passed away 5 1/2 years ago. I loved celebrating her!

  8. Good for you! That is a very encouraging post. I cried on Mother's Day and considered suing Hallmark for setting up so many of us for UNattainable expectations. I cried when I got dressed for church, remembering the feel of that full pew of little ones that never let me concentrate and actually listen to the sermon. Yeah, I cried. BUT, I have to tell you what the Lord did ... First of all He gives me HIMSELF every day, then that ole son of mine actually called me. Lastly, our baby and her husband, our married sunshine, sat by me at church. She scribbled an "I love you" on my notes. I cried again, this time from thanksgiving. It was an up and down Mother's Day but I understand it's a journey, one day at a time. Trusting HIM.
