Hanging with Honey {Day 4} : In his eyes

***This post was originally written last summer and for some reason I never hit publish.  Trusting in God's perfect sovereignty and timing and believing someone needs to be reminded of this on this very day.  I know I sure did.

Today I was scrolling through pics making room on my iPad, deleting the blurry ones and stuff.  Then I came across this one and it stopped me dead in my tracks.  Technically the picture itself is not so good.  We were with friends at the beach and I had asked Nick to stand still for a minute because I was trying to get all my settings right.  I'm trying to only shoot in manual and this was the middle of the day and super bright.  So it's a little blurry, the color is off.

But I can see myself in the reflection of his glasses.  It hit me that this is what he was seeing at that very moment. And his sweet little smile…that expression…it just got me thinking about being seen in his eyes.

In his eyes I'm beautiful.

In his eyes I'm the best wife ever.

In his eyes I'm a great mother.

In his eyes he sees a great leader and teacher.

In his eyes I'm his lover.

How do I know this. It's because of what he does. How he shows me his love.
He sees the ugly parts of me physically…my wrinkles and my stretch marks and my varicose veins and pouchy stomach and doesn't look past them….he doesn't ignore them. He sees them.  He acknowledges them. They are part of me and he yet in spite of those "flaws", he thinks I'm beautiful.
He makes me feel beautiful.

 Even though our house is usually a mess he doesn't complain about it. He still builds me up as a wife and keeper of our home. Undeservedly.

 And on days when I really mess up as a momma with our girls and lose my patience…when I  make it about me in that moment and how they have hurt my feelings instead of thinking about the big picture  and how to help my girls in that moment.… he tells me how I'm doing  a great job at raising his daughters. That I'm a good momma.

 He always encourages my leadership skills even though he knows how disorganized I am and how terrible I am with time management.

He  makes me feel desirable and wanted as a woman even though I may not look or feel sexy.

I don't tell you all these things to put him on a pedestal. He's not perfect. Far from it.
But his unconditional love for me is rooted in Christ.
It's such a picture to me of how Christ loves us in spite of our mess.
And I know for a fact that He has used me on a regular basis to sanctify Nick.

So when I came upon a post on Instagram by couple of ladies, Kelli and Vanessa, who started up the conversation and asked the question "Who in your life has demonstrated unconditional love, which in turn has influenced or changed the course of your story?",   I didn't even have to think about my answer.

It's this man who know me better than anyone else on this planet.
The one who has seen the worst side of me and yet still loves me.
The one who has  experienced first hand the ugliest parts of my heart…the dark crevices that ooze out selfishness that demands it's way.  He's been by my side when I hated myself so much that I felt like a empty shell of person not capable of loving anyone back.

I don't deserve this kind of love.

I don't deserve the love of Christ either.
In fact, none of us do.
 But God in His great love for us provided a way through His Son that in spite of our sin and our selfish ways, we could experience this kind of unconditional love.

And when I stop and think about how I'm seen in God's eyes, it is overwhelming.
Psalm 139 sheds so much insight on this. It is one of the most riveting, unbelievable, comforting, and convicting passages in all the word to me.

Lord, You have searched me and known me.

You know my sitting down and my rising up;

You understand my thought afar off.

You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.
You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
11
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall[a] on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
12
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
13
For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[b]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
17
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!

How great is the sum of them!
18
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You.
19
Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God!

Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.
20
For they speak against You wickedly;
Your enemies take Your name in vain.[c]
21
Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
22
I hate them with perfect hatred;
I count them my enemies.
23
Search me, O God, and know my heart;

Try me, and know my anxieties;
24
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

Is that not incredible?  Even on my darkest days, when I am at my absolute worst, God still loves me. When I buy into the enemy's lie about how worthless and unworthy I am and I want to be left alone in my funk, I can't get away from the Lord.  He is there. He sees me. He knows my jacked up thought life I struggle with at times and yet He still loves me.
He knows what He is making me into.
He knows what can be done through my life when I operate in His power and strength.
In His eyes I am mighty.
In His yes I am victorious.
In His eyes  I am beautiful.

I so want to live each second of my existence with the fresh awareness of how I'm seen in His eyes.

Praying for you today that YOU would see yourself through His eyes.
Because girl.... you are gorgeous.

The Sweetest Gift

Last week while I was at Elizabeth's she took some pics for me with the grandkids for Mother's Day.    It was the sweetest gift.
It was also an adventure with four kids. More specifically, it was an adventure with Nate Dog.
I don't think there were any "perfect" pictures taken at all.   Someone was always not looking.

But like I've told my girls for years..
Perfect is overrated anyways.

cuff by my girl Becky farmgirlpaints
(her shop re-opens Friday!)

My sweet first born Rosalyn.
The one who made me a Honey.
Our deep thinker, quick witted, best dance moves, sometimes bossy, always sweet, doesn't forget a thing, soon to be first grader.

My precious Julia Rose.
The one who recalls every detail of her dreams and has the best morning conversations in the world.
She's our dreamer, peacemaker, left handed artist, deeply sensitive, romantic, funny,  almost kindergartner.

My Little Man Nate
The first grandson
He's our wild child, hilarious, full of energy, hard headed, keeps us humble, loves to lead, all boy,  soon to be fully potty trained (we hope)

My Darling little Hazel Jane
The baby and caboose of this crazy love train
Our little drooler, momma lover, chubby legged, loves to nurse, wiggle worm!
Can't wait to watch your little personality continue to emerge.

Paw Paw
The love of my life and my lover.
He's our wise rock, our problem solver, nurse of the family, the one with all the answers, the one who sees the very best in everyone. Especially me.

And My Dearest Elizabeth
The one who has had to put up with a momma basically growing up with her.
She's a giver,  people lover,  best listener,  deep feeler, patient momma and great friend
Thanks sweet love for always showing your momma grace.
And thank you for taking these pictures for me.
You are so incredibly talented.  I love you.

( For Elizabeth's sake please know that none of these pics are edited.  They are straight out the camera.  Momma was hasty. ;) )
And thank you for those of you who still actually come hang out with me here.
Seriously.  Y'all are the best.

25

This happened last month.

On August 20th we celebrated 25 years of marriage.
Say wha?!  I can't believe it myself.
It has flown by.  Seriously flown by.
We always talked about how on our 25th we would do something big to celebrate...
like go on a big trip or renew our vows.
But our 25th happened to be sandwiched in between two weddings.
Our daughter's.  So we kinda put the big trip celebrating on hold.
But no worries....we still celebrated.
They made sure of that and made it super special.

Lydia had us over to her house where they cooked us a wonderful meal.
We facetimed Elizabeth and Chris and the grandkids so they could celebrate with us.

They had it decorated beautiful!

Lydia even found these vintage 25th "silver" anniversary dishes.

 We finished out the night getting serenaded by our son-in-law mad skills on the guitar.
It was a wonderful evening.

I always knew life together was gonna be great when we said I do way back then,
But I never knew just how great.
It's better than anything I could have imagined...being his bride.

I'm looking forward to 25 more together!

Oh... and by the time you read this, we'll be putting these passports to use!
Look's like we're gonna get to take that big anniversary trip after all!
My mom and step-dad celebrate their 25th anniversary in Oct and they treated us to join them on a cruise to the Caribbean!  We skipped the family beach trip this year AND....I was the big winner of the Losing to Gain SO she morphed all the trips into one biggie!

Bon Voyage!

(I'll be unplugged for a while enjoying my man.  No phone, emails, texts, instagram, Facebook.
I'll see you in a week!)

The Wifey Club

So.  Yesterday was our first Porterville Night since the wedding.
Which means we would all be hanging out as a bunch of married folks.
That is wonderful,  surreal, and weird all rolled up in one.

So I had to commemorate the occasion.
So I formed us The Wifey Club.
We were missing the second to oldest wifey, Mrs. Sirven...it would have been perfect with her here.

But here are the two other members...besides myself, Mrs. Holden,  the President of The Wifey Club.
(they don't know I'm the president...I just made that up.)

Mrs. Linton
She's been a wifey for a little over a year now and it seems to be agreeing with her a little bit.
Okay, a lot. Like really a lot.

And Mrs. McMullen.
She's' fresh off the turnip truck and being a wifey is a dream come true.

And this is Henry...
He's not a wifey, obviously, but we allowed him to hang out with us because he's just so darn cute.

 And this is me.
Mrs. Holden, also their momma.

  They have all been pretty excited about becoming a wifey.
I have loved being one for the past 25 years and hope they have always seen the honor and privilege I have serving their dad.  They've seen me mess it up a bunch too but I pray they left our home equipped with what they need to start off this new journey they are on.
 And I'm so glad they have each other.
Their big sister has been a wifey almost six years now and  has paved the road of wifeyhood (and motherhood) with much experience and wisdom. It blesses me knowing they all have each other to lean on and laugh with and to do this thing together.

Being a wifey isn't always like looking through rose colored glasses.  It can be challenging...even ugly at times.  It takes work to be the woman God created us to be and the helpmates to our husbands.  It takes sacrifice and seriously, who just absolutely loves sacrificing?...In our flesh, we want things our way.

I pray that through it all...the good times and the bad times that will come,
they will always see wifeyhood as a blessing.
Something that makes their life richer.
Because it does.

Being a wifey rocks!
Being a wifey to their daddy is the best.
 When they were each born and we were choosing their names,  of course we picked something that sounded good with our last name, Holden.  We knew one day that name would change and I always wondered what their names would be.  I mean, I've been a Holden much longer now than I have been a Cooper.  And names were a super big topic in this house full of women.  I mean, they've had lists of baby names since they were all 10 years old.

It's so ironic that they all ended up with last names like Holden...
Sirven
Linton
McMullen
They all end with n's...have the same kinda sound as their original.
Thought that was neat.

So this Wifey Club thing is really cool.
Best club I've ever joined. :)

 Even the Lord likes The Wifey Club.....

"He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor form the Lord."
Proverbs 18:22
