What I wore...learning to dress the "new me".

So it's no secret I've put on some weight.  About 45 lbs to be exact.
Now I know I'm not morbidly obese or anything, but I feel yucky and tired and most of my clothes don't fit right anymore.  I'm not complaining and I'm definitely not fishing for compliments...I'm just being honest where I'm at and wanting to share a few tips how I've changed my wardrobe up a little to better suit my new body type.  Maybe this will help a sister out.

You see, I love little tees and cardis a lot....
I love to wear them with skirts, with jeans, with my converse, with everything.
But the problem is I now have this roll around my middle that a cardi no longer hides.
I know some of y'all know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, any time Nick goes shopping with me and he picks out stuff he likes for me to wear, it's always these long tunic tops that I kinda don't like much.  I would wear them for him but hate them.  I loved them on other people but on me I always felt a little frumpy.
But now that my shape has kinda shifted...all to the middle...I was ready to try anything to make me feel cute again.  So recently while in my favorite store, Dirt Cheap, I came across some of these tops and decided to give them a second chance.  And guess what?...
I really feel cute when I wear them.  Bam.

I would list where the clothes/shoes are from but all of these clothes were either thrifted or bought at Dirt Cheap (which is a salvage store chain in the south).

I highly recommend a handsome little grandson dude on your hip.  They are the best accessory evah!

This is my dressed up version of this top....

And this is my casual version with jeans and flip flops.
My leather cuff you see in several of these outfits is made by my friend Becky.  You can check out her blog here.  Her shop is open at limited times so you gotta snag one when you can. I pretty much wear mine  with everything.

Of course....I still wear my cardis and converse.  I have just had to buy a few bigger ones!
But when Dirt Cheap has Target cardis for $1.00..... I let myself splurge.  ;)

What about you?  Have you had to find yourself changing things up in your closet to better flatter your body type?  I'd love any  tricks and tips you may have up your sleeve.

ps. stay tuned for a little something me and my girls are doing to get fit.
There may or may not be some competing going on amongst the Holden girls.

  1. I know you're not fishing for compliments, but truly you are always beautiful no matter what you wear. I bought a top like that at our Burke's. I love the colors and felt comfortable in it. My hubby doesn't like tunics much, though. Sigh. I feel like I have to let go of the sleeveless tops this year, but it's so stinkin' hot in the summer. I have started doing push ups to put a some shape back in my arms. I'm interested to hear what you and your girls will be doing!

  7. The older I get, the more my body is shifting....I have trouble finding clothes that fit right, feel good and look decent! :) I will just keep trying ~ and maybe revisit a few different styles. You look beautiful!

  8. You're beautiful! Love all the outfits! I've been struggling with a lot of insecurities myself so your positive attitude here was very encouraging to me.

Also, I'm curious as to why this Dirt Cheap business hasn't caught on in the rest of the country! I'm sure people in the Northwest would love $1 Target cardigans just as much as you lovely southern ladies!

  9. You are so beautiful lady!

After having twins, my stomach is all weird now and really nothing I do will fix it (unless I get a tummy tuck, but no thank you!). I find that buying looser tops and belting them helps hide my tummy and give me a waist. It makes me feel more confident and looks cute!

  11. Well even though I know for a fact your not a fisher of compliments, I must tell you your beautiful! I love the colors you chose to wear too. The green looks great and those long dark blue pants?! So cute!! I understand that body changing business, I'm trying to keep fit, not just to be smaller but because I NEED it. It's embarrassing wheezing just from running across my front yard (it's not that big of a yard!). So I'll be sure to send prayers of encouragement up for you and your girls! :)

    Love ya!

  12. I LOVE how candid you are about this, you look BEAUTIFUL Steph, and I love how you are embracing your new body type, --I would say the last top is PERFECTION!!!! If you can find more similar to that--and have you ever tried skinny jeans? YOu could pull those off big time..Are you tall? I bet you are taller than me, I am 5'4 , so you've got the height, you should give them a try. I know Walmart carries some good options for skinny jeans.

  14. Those tops look so great on you! After having my Nate in 2011 I lost 70 lbs, Ive gained 10 back and it's killing me because I still have 30lbs to go. Weight has always been a struggle my whole life. I just love your attitude though, you are such a role model in every way. :)

  15. Being a child of the seventies, I have an ongoing love for the tunic type tops. And the older I get, and the more my body changes, the more they hide : ) YOU look amazing in them all and I so admire you sharing and embracing who you are at this moment - a very much loved child of God. Beauty-filled you are!

  19. I've recently been going through the same thing as I returned to school to get a graduate degree and have lost the consistency of my previous life. I've put on weight and have been trying to dress my new body. I'm not sure where you have put on your weight but one of the tricks that I've been capitalizing on is the "peplum" trend to disguise the weight I've put on in my mid section. It looks like the top flaring away from the body is due to the cut of the shirt and not to my mid section. No matter what you are beautiful at any weight. Thank you for your honest post about weight...this is something women need to be more honest about with each other.

  20. You look super cute! And when did your Grandson get so big? When I started following your blog, we was still in the tim tim I think!

  21. I think you look fabulous--in both the tunic style of tops and with the cardigans. I live in tanks, tees and cardis with boyfriend jeans--and it accents my muffin top-- but I've been wanting to try more tunics or peasant style blouses with skinny jeans. I love the bright green and white one and the green and blue aztec print.

    You are beautiful!
