Lessons from the ice cream truck.

Oh the joy.
The anticipation.
Do you remember waiting for the ice cream truck?
To have your own dollar to choose whatever you wanted?

That when the sound of that music would reach your ears, you would drop whatever you were doing to run and get your dollar and get in place..to get in position...to be waiting...in the right place so the driver didn't pass you up.

When Elizabeth sent me this picture yesterday of the kids with all their new little  friends in the neighborhood waiting for the ice cream truck,  my heart literally melted a little as I stared as this pic.
It's cuteness...the innocence...the pureness of it.
She later told me it took two hours of waiting.
TWO HOURS y'all.  In kid time that equals two days!
But they waited and yes it did come and they enjoyed sweet treats.

And then I thought wow.  What if we all treated our quiet time with the Lord like this?
With all the joy and anticipation of knowing He is coming to deliver us something sweet.
That when we opened the pages of His word, it would be as sweet as the sound of that ice cream truck music.....because you know you're about to get something good.
What if we would drop everything we are doing to get into position to hear from Him.
To wait as long as it took to get a word from Him?

And what if once we got a taste of that sweetness, we couldn't wait to share it with others..
to tell them about it so they could have some too.

What if.

"Oh God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You.  My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen You in your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory.  Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise You!  I will praise You as long as I live, lifting up my hands to You in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast.  I will praise You with songs of joy."
Psalm 63:1-5

"Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who trust in Him!"
Psalm 34:8

  3. I LOVE this for 2 reasons:
    #1. That photo is adorable!!
#2. Your words contain SO much truth!

Funny thing-- I was thinking the same exact thoughts the other day while listening to the kiddy chaos caused by the ice cream truck right outside my parents' house. This post serves as total confirmation for me that God longs to have me approach Him with expectation and all kind of love & joy!
    Thank you for sharing!

  6. Love this post, but I gotta ask....
Were the kids able to really buy ice cream with dollar bills?
Our ice cream is at least $2.50 an ice cream. so sad.

  7. The sound of the ice cream truck tells me summer is near! What a great perspective on such a vivid childhood memory. God is the no calorie kind of ice cream man! And we can taste all we want. Blessings! Love, Rachael @ Inking the Heart

  14. before sitting here to read this post i read Psalm 63! and honestly, it's been a while since i've "waited for the ice cream truck," but i KNOW he's got sweetness for me. Psalm 63 is the sweetest place to start (my favorite).
